aggravated by work at the mo: our staff team are really short after the Home Office decided that one of my colleagues (who's been working away in this country for the last five years) didn't have the right papers after all and to hoik him off to a Detention Centre with his wife and baby, so I ended up working a twelve hour shift again yesterday or the evening day centre wouldn't have been able to open; I don't mind working those kinda shifts so much except it completely wipes me out for doing anything with my own time when I do get home- yesterday I was planning to start my regime of Tuesday studying, learning stats and refreshing my Greek, and I really don't need excuses to procrastinate . . . Then this morning I seemed to have become a walking sounding board for a whole bunch of clients' complaints about pretty much every aspect of how the service worked: honestly, I much prefer it when they're wrecked and scream abuse at you than having to defend a load of procedures & decisions I have little input into & don't always agree with myself.

On the plus side, exhaustion aside, I seemed to have remained emotionally fairly upbeat since the weekend and the clients got to cannibalise art yesterday in the form of Trafalgar square's eight foot high banana sculpture.
Another thing to be excited about is Mind Hacks

What books are you using to refresh your Greek (would this be ancient or modern Greek?)

ancient: I'm re-reading through the Oedipus plays of Sophocles, on the grounds that Oedipus Tyrannos is probably the piece of classical literature I'm most familiar with . . .

makes me kind of glad I begged and pleaded with immigration to extend my right to be in the UK by four days (my visa ran out just before I could get a plane home) - so I made sure I crossed i's and dotted t's - I didn't want to end up in a detention centre!

it scares me how quickly the so called 'immigration debate' can be wipped up into a mad frenzy - it sounds like your colleage was making a worthy contribution to UK society - the way he was treated does seem an injustice.

cannibalise a banana sculpture? did they cover it in yoghurt and attempt to turn it into a bananna split scupture ? that really would have been arty :)

good to see you again, even if it was far too briefly! You may be interested to know I actually visited your flat with barty about the 16th September - after barty cryx and I saw I robot - I asked if it was worth knocking on your door to say hi but I was told you were probably asleep as it was well past midnight at the time.

yeah, they told me you'd come whilst I'd been asleep- was annoyed I'd missed you, cos I'd ahve liked to have gone and seen the film with them as well. Was good to see you briefly on saturday, though: did you get to die in the end?
