went up with K. to Glasgow friday although she was still hung over so we just watched DVDs in the evening (if you're thinking of watching Swimming Pool, SWAT or Spun, think again) and spent 24 hours in each other's company sober for possibly the first time ever; we spent most of saturday rectifying this and felt so rough the next morning that K. insisted we get a taxi to the nearest Burger King- just one indication of the way that, even when we're straight, I end up spending money like water when I'm with her, so fuck knows what's gonna happen to my finances when she moves back down here next month.

went to the oddest gig of my life this evening: well, 'gig' makes it sound rather too rock'n'roll when actually it was more akin to five hundred people wandering into someone's living room. It was Rufus Wainwright. And his Mum. And his aunt. And his sister. And their cousin and a couple of mates they'd got round as well, in a succession of ad hoc ensemble and solo performances. It was possibly the most unrehearsed performance I've ever paid money for, which together with the meandering stage banter rather enhanced the feeling of intruding on a casual family sing-song, but somehow it still managed to be very charming and engaging and the music, which included both songs from their divergent careers and covers of everyone from Leonard Cohen to Judy Garland, really good. It'd be cool to see him just performing by himself sometime (which is kinda what i thought I's getting when i bought the ticket) but at least he played absolutely the perfect song for his encore ;-)
