Halloween 25/10/21 - 31/10/21
Nov. 7th, 2021 10:08 pmThe cancelled plans spilled over into the next week: on Monday I had thought we were re-starting D&D but it got put off a week, then Round the World dinner plans got cancelled on Tuesday, so N & I just went out for dinner ourselves to Green Lanes, after a drink on the South Bank. On Wednesday I went to Alexandra Palace to see Fontaines DC: Josh had supposed to be coming too but had pulled out. Support were from fellow-Irish band The Altered Hours and Fontaines were great. It's also gone from a venue that's a total pain to get home from to something much easier.
On Thursday evening, N & I went to the pub in the evening with the Vauxhall crowd, who it was lovely to catch up with, then I was out the next evening at MOTH Club. First up was Keaton Dekker, then an act called T Truman, who seemed a kind of retro pastiche (albeit a very catchy one) and turned out to be a project by one of the members of The Vaccines. Headlining were Walt Disco, who seem to have gained quite a bit of a following for their flamboyant bombast.
We were hosting the traditional Bruce Grove Halloween party on Saturday so N & I went down into Stoke Newington to shop for food , drink and costumes, before I headed home and had a bit of a domestic day, until I realised my costume plans weren't coming together in time and I had to go on a desperate last minute tour of the local area, which was in vain but a much needed walk: luckily N saved the day. Our theme this year was Dystopia, it was lower key than usual, both in terms of people's costuming and the number of people we'd invited but it was really nice, especially having something which all the housemates were around for.
I had another chilled out morning at home on Sunday, then joined N in the afternoon at the Barbican to watch The French Dispatch, which was basically a perfect distillation of Wes Anderson film-making down to its most elemental form. We had Family Zoomtime in the evening and tried to think up ways to use up all the toasted sandwich ingredient leftovers from the party.
