I had an oddly quiet week next: various possible plans fell through as friends' availability shifted, one gig rescheduled due to Covid, another was sold out by the time I decided to commit to it, a colleague postponed her leaving do. I did go out Thursday night to the Old Blue Last where Latenight Honeymoon were headlining a gig and had curated what felt much more like a community event with friends playing than formal support slots. First up was Daniel Fazzina in his 50s and wearing the comfiest looking jumper you can imagine but with an amazing bluesy voice, then Scary Luke, who started on his own but was joined by more and more people on stage with each song, Hazzelle wore a floaty dress and seemed to have written all of her songs in the jungle in Costa Rica, but striggled to be heard over the crowd, then came all-female fourpiece Hourglvss, who I'd seen once before. I'd seen Latenight Honeymoon around the place a few times but this was the first time I'd specifically sought them out and they did not disappoint.

After a day working at home, I headed out Friday evening to meet up with E and ex-colleague R at the Star of Bethnal Green (which I ought to frequent more!) before heading on to Pink Glove, now at the Bethnal Working Men's Club, to continue my return to Clubbing. We got there pretty early but it filled right up and we also acquired by ex's partner A as we danced away, although we left around one-ish, with the night still in full flow. The rest of my weekend was quiet as I tried to get on with work in the mornings: then the Saturday I headed down into town to meet N (who's going out and about getting back into photography) and we had cake at Maison Bertaux before heading home again, then the Sunday I joined him in Walthamstow for a roast lunch at The Chequers, which I really liked as a pub. We came back home but then I headed over to the Little Phoenix's in the evening, just to hang out and play some Fluxx.

Things picked up the next week: I headed down to the Windmill on Monday with Joey as Lias Saoudi was doing a support set there; headlining were South London stalwarts Peeping Drexels, who I'd seen during the seated-gig phase without being wowed, but I got much more into this time, being able to stand and dance. Tuesday I was in, then Wednesday I juggled two gigs by going to the Waiting Room first where Flowvers were playing a gig, but I only stayed for their supports (both of which contain members of the band anyway) Cowboyy and Harvey Jay Dodgson. Then I dashed over to Camden (I actually made it in plenty of time but did get very wet) to see Estevans headlining their gig, with a really good crowd.

Thursday also had a cluster of opportunities: I spent a couple of hours at M's rescheduled leaving do at a pub in Pimlico, which was really nice, then combined J&E wanting to go out to a pub with Pete Kosanovich playing a set of his psychedelic bluesy folk at The Good Mixer. N tried to join us but wasn't comfortable with the lack of seating and the narrow space so headed straight back off again. It was a really fun night, J ended up playing pool with some regulars and Pete came to chat quite a bit, but drinking quite quickly in both places definitely caught up with me the next day. I wasn't at my most productive working from home, but managed to perk up in the evening when I headed over to E's place in Colindale: he'd invited a few friends over and it was a nice evening chatting and drinking; I stayed lateish but E very kindly booked me an Uber home.

N & I had some brunch in Dalston on the Saturday, then headed over to the V&A: we checked out some interesting rooms of medieval manuscript illustrations, then covered a bit more of the main collection. I headed home for the afternoon, then back out in the evening to see The Skinner Brothers back at the 100 Club, only a couple of months after they last played there. They had impressive support from JW Paris and Rats and got a suitably enthusiastic reception from their fans. Then on Sunday, I got the coach up to Oxford to visit L in a specifically non-Iris capacity, which was lovely: we just chatted loads, then went over to A's to hang out with him for a bit. I headed back to London and straight down to New Cross for a gig. I was watching Single by Sunday, a Scottish pop-punk band, who were fun but it had a slightly weird boy-band-that-didn't-make-it vibe, with a small crowd of very dedicated of (primarily) teenage girls; they were supported by another young band Scarlett Rose and Indecisive, who played covers (Blondie, Cranberries, Radiohead etc.) and seemed to have a strong proud-parent contingent with them.
