The Bank Holiday weekend at the end of May continued to be uncharacteristically hot and sunny: on the Sunday we mostly had a day at home, although I struck out by myself for a walk down the River Lea in the afternoon, then we had a house outing to the Bluecoats in the evening. On the Monday Neil and I headed up to (surprisingly nice) Enfield Town, then did a walk down along the New River ("neither new, nor a river") as far as Finsbury Park in the baking heat. We were having the first Bruce Grove BBQ since I had moved in later afternoon and ex-housemates L&R came over, as well as a bunch of Luke's friends, which was all really nice, although I had a gig booked for the evening so had to leave halfway through.

I was headed down to the Water Rats for a packed line-up: Hannya White had some kind of synthesizer and was in an experimental vein, UK Paint Horse were a pretty decent female-fronted band, but I was there for two familiar favourites The Novus and The Velvet Hands, both of whom it was great to see play again. I initially enjoyed the former for their energy live but their songs seem to be getting better and better too. The rest of the week was quietish other than Wednesday when N & I met up with Cousin A and Culture Club Claire for a meal at a Peruvian restaurant in Soho: the first of a planned global tour of cuisines that London has to offer.

Friday was Gaz B's usual livestream, then Saturday N & I had some excellent brunch opposite the Freemasons Hall before meeting Lisa and Cousin A at the British Museum to see their Beckett exhibition: I liked the idea of them focussing exhibitions on individuals (they are doing Nero as well) but it was a little disappointing: his life was rushed through and there was a lot more on his legacy, it was also pretty busy and suffered from their usual problem of people shuffling through to read and view things printed small at waist height, however we did go for very nice cake at Maison Bertaux afterwards. On Sunday I headed down by myself to Dulwich Park to meet up with Matt W and pottered around keeping his young daughter entertained and catching up, which was lovely after so long; I headed back home hoping to get some work done but without much success, and we had our usual Family Zoomtime in the afternoon.

D&D returned on Monday night, then I had a very quiet week socially, the initial rush of sit-down gigs having played themselves out: our extended hostel project had finally closed at work, so we were dealing with the aftermath of that, supporting my caseworkers who were scrabbling around trying to make sure as many as possible of our guests didn't return to the street.
