Although I have taken advantage of some of the easing of lockdown restrictions, it's almost made me more impatient and bored: knowing that things are tantalisingly close to being back to normalish but not quite there yet. N's students have been able to start putting on their shows (but without a paying audience), so he's been busy with that, later in the year than usual, working until 10pm every day (Easter included) except Sundays, which has probably exacerbated the sense that I'm just sat at home marking time. A lot of TV shows and films are being watched and not much else going on, but I'm okay with that: taking the pressure of myself to have to be going for walks etc. every day has done me the world of good.
D&D happened on the Monday before Easter then I had a good chat with LB on the Tuesday evening, but not much else happened until Good Friday where I niddled around, relaxing during the day and watched Gaz B's livestream and the artsy Fat White Family documentary (Moonbathing in February) that was streamed that evening. On the Saturday I got the train down to Winchester and met up with my parents and my brother: we went for a little walk (in the same woods N&I had gone with my parents to when we saw them in the summer) and had a picnic and it was really nice- I felt like I engaged with my nieces a little more than usual (they had made me birthday cakes) and their dog provided lots of entertainment. We saw each other for a few hours, then I headed back up to London mid-afternoon, popping in to see a guest who was in a hotel close to Waterloo before heading home.
Because we could now meet outdoors with up to 5 others, I had been able to arrange some birthday gatherings in different stages, mainly just as a good excuse to get to see people again. On Easter Sunday N&I met with the first 4 (E, LB, Fi and Will H) in Regent's Park and it was a gloriously sunny day, which made the whole thing pretty lovely. There were loads of people in the park, but not in a particularly uncomfortable way, and we stayed there for most of the afternoon. I spent most of the BH Monday doing some work that had to get done, which was a bit dull although it's at least fairly relaxed getting on with stuff without interruptions; D&D got cancelled in the evening though, which was a shame. I'd taken the Tuesday off too as it was my actual birthday: I ended up spending it going on an epic 6 1/2 hour walk from Tottenham marshes down the River Lea to the Limehouse Basin, then back up the Lea Navigation, stopping off for food in Victoria Park, and back home again. I had my iPod going and it was another sunny day so the whole thing was actually a great way to spend it and housemate L (who shares my birthday) cooked a lovely meal for us all in the evening.
It felt weird returning to work on a WFH day: the first of our winter hostels was closing at the end of the week so we were managing all of that. Friday was another Gaz livestream and on Saturday evening watched a performance The Blinders were streaming, after N had slipped away from work long enough for a stroll along both sections of the Parkland Walk. Sunday was Birthday Picnic no. 2 (this time with M, Cousin A, Culture Club C and Ketch)- we returned to Regent's Park but the weather was much more mercurial, with warm sun quickly giving way to chilly breezes and even flurries of snow and back again; we were still able to stay there and have a nice time though, going for a wander around the Rose Garden when it got too cold to stay sitting.
We did play D&D on Monday this week and I caught Bilk on the Scruff of the Neck livestream on Tuesday, but otherwise not much has been happening, other than Gaz B having broken his leg and having to do Friday's performance sitting down. I'd had plans to go and meet up with K today but they got cancelled so I've just been doing a few domestic jobs, only making it out as far as Sainsbury's.
