October Gigs 14/10/19- 19/10/19
Oct. 20th, 2019 09:51 amI had an evening in on Monday before October's gig frenzy continued: I was at the Victoria on Tuesday for George Godfrey's night there. He was showcasing Foundlings,female-fronted indie that I couldn't quite pin down, I was there for Calva Louise who I hadn't managed to catch recently and headliners Superglu, who I didn't know but were apparently back after 2 years and were lively fun.
Wednesday I had one of those days training that just made you stressed because of all the things you have to do back in the office, as the shelter season is looming. That night's gig was close by at the Camden Assembly, Gnarlah were out-and-out rock and I was there to see Fangclub, who were great, although the I Will Always Love You lip-synched finale was not something I saw coming.
On Thursday I headed down to Guildford after work: having failed to make their London show, I was determined to catch October Drift one way or another (although it meant missing Phobophobes so it was all a bit of a mess). I think it's the third time I've been to a gig at the Star down there. They were supported by Wild Tales, who had a skate punky sound and a chatty drummer, and the heartfelt Quiet Lions. OD always put their all into it, although I feel like I did slightly miss out by missing their London show, which Joey said had been amazing, as there were only 30 or so in the Guildford crowd (as ever, they had attracted an older [than me] crowd). I have a huge amount of anxiety about interacting with the bands I go and see, which I'm sure exacerbates the sense that I'm that I'm this odd guy who keeps turning up to people's gigs but lurks around and doesn't say anything, but OD feel tantalising like a band that I could go up and talk to although, anxious to get back before the tubes stopped, of course I didn't.
On Friday I met up with N for food along the Holloway Road before we headed into Nambucca: Frauds were on first who were, I guess, what you'd call a comedy-punk duo from Croydon; some bits I really enjoyed and at other times I nearly wandered off. We were there for Tankus the Henge who brought their usual energy and played some new songs. I stayed over at N's and we had brunch on Saturday before I headed into work: I was delivering part of the Overnight Worker induction but took the opportunity to get some other stuff while the office was quiet, then had a nondescript rest of the day, domesticity and a DVD.
