I was over at N's for dinner on Wednesday night and discovered that Ez was in the area, who I hadn't seen for ages, so we all agreed to meet up at The Post Bar, which none of us had checked out before, and had cool decor and the promise of live music. My guests left on Thursday, although we'd conspired not to even lay eyes on each other since Sunday, and I blew off my gig plans to head up to Rickmansworth that evening where J's sister was having a BBQ, which was turning into a party by the time I got there: we've not seen each other much this year and it reminded me of what I'd been missing as it started to turn predictably messy, although I used all my willpower to catch the last tube home.

On Friday N & I rendez-voused in Tufnell Park to attend J&E's Equinox house party, a good mix of friends and other vaguely familiar faces, which was really nice and I ended up walking most of the way home. I then had a domestic day Saturday (my last with the place to myself before M came back), including a bit of work, before heading first up to the weird wholescale flat development world of Colindale where Ez was celebrating the last day being accommodated in his own flat while his partner's parents were over; he had a couple of other friends over and we drank wine and chatted. I headed from there over to Hackney to meet back up with E for one of our rare instances of making it to Pink Glove, this time at MOTH Club. My ex's partner A was there too and the music was great, although they only ran until 1am, which would normally have been disappointing, but in the circumstances I could cope with, especially as it took me an age to get home.

I met up with N on Sunday and we ended up having a good go at Open House weekend, taking in the Royal Society; the opulent Masonic Temple incorporated in the Andaz Hotel in Liverpool Street; the Bevis Marks Synagogue nestled nearby in the city, in continuous use since 1701; Toynbee Hall, providing a base for well-meaning educated Victorians to minister to the East End poor; Temple Church, with all its crusader and Magna Carta associations, which provided an equally fascinating opportunity to nose around the Inns of Court, and finally the "Roman" Bath hidden just behind the Strand. It's amazing how much I still have to discover if this city I've lived in for close to twenty years. N & I had a late (and indulgent) lunch, then I reluctantly dragged myself into the office to get some tasks that were looming over me out of the way, before heading home for the evening.

I still slightly feel like I'm drowning with work at the mo but was pleasantly distracted by meeting up with L for food in Kilburn this evening to catch up now the dust is (sort of) settling post-EarperCon. It was a bustling, elbow-to-elbow little Thai place, constantly full, which reminded me why I like the feel of Kilburn more than I do West Hampstead, despite never really going there.
