Having missed the big protest against proroguing parliament on Saturday, I went along to a small 'Stop the Coup' demo at Westminster after work on Monday: there were probably just two or three hundred of us but we marched down to Downing Street where Boris was due to make a statement and I was surprised how audible we were in the background when I heard the statement later on the news. I was back again with N the next day, while the vote to take control of the parliamentary timetable was going on inside: a much bigger crowd, this time with a bunch of speakers on Parliament Square, although I can't say they particularly represented the breadth of the coalition that was coming together inside the House. We stayed for about 90 minutes then headed off to have food.

I had some gigs the next couple of nights: at the Black Heart on Wednesday, where I saw Tropic Gold, who were pretty heavy, with a big sound, followed by Big Spring; then at Werkhaus (which I'd been to before under the name Cafe 1001) on Thursday, where I watched SNAYX, a duo with a live bass and a drum track, who were interesting and a bit dancey, then SNASH, an angry guitar band from Glasgow; I was there for Rascalton, who were great but the crowd were a bit lost in the venue.

I slipped away early from work on Friday and headed down to Petersfield to visit K: we had some drinks then went back to her new house. She was by herself for the weekend and we made the most of the freedom; a friend of hers came round and we danced around her kitchen through the night, then spent the next day recovering in front of murder mysteries, first at hers, then her parents', before I got the train back up to London.

After a nap, I headed out in the evening to the Water Rats to catch some bands: George Hennessy was a very decent solo acoustic guy, who confirmed his influences by chucking in an Oasis cover, next up were The Gulps, who had a great energy and were more impressive (and seemed more European) than when I saw them at Truck and they were followed by Serene, who had a choppy urgency and seemed good but I didn't connect with as well. I was there for Lighthouse and it was great to see them headlining a This Feeling gig with a rambunctious crowd, although they retained an endearing lack of polish on stage. I headed round the corner afterwards to (eventually) meet up with Lovely Joe who was down as he was working in London the next day and came back to stay over: he was off and out before I got up in the morning but it was great to catch-up in passing.
