August Bank Holiday 24/08/19-26/08/19
Sep. 2nd, 2019 09:09 pmOnce I'd surfaced on the Saturday, I headed into town after lunch to meet up with N: we mooched around a bit until we were joined by his ex-housemate D, who was up from Bristol; we caught up over cake, then went up to N's in Tottenham where I hung out with them for a while, before heading down to DIY Space for London to meet up with P, J&E for a gig. Support were Me Rex and Honey Joy but we were there for Onsind, who are as worth watching for their lovely stage presence as their songs.
I had another chilled out morning at home on Sunday, then headed down to Catford for M&R's housewarming: there was lots of Empire talk (although I was also doing some surreptitious cricket-following, as it was all a bit exciting) but it was really nice to see most of our table-top group, plus some new faces, and the house is great, with a Narnia-style streetlamp in the garden! I stayed for a few hours then traversed up to Finsbury Park for a picnic with N's lot, which was predictably over-catered, it was nice to sit in the park as the day just began to cool off (we'd been mostly hiding inside from the sun at the housewarming) and went to the pub locally when it finally got too dark. I did get caught out, however, by the Bank Holiday not changing anything about Sunday train times and ended up missing the last tube and taking an age to bus back via Camden.
For Bank Holiday Monday, M & I had made plans to Actually Do Something Together and headed out to Chiswick where we were joined by N and Cousin A to firstly poke around Chiswick House, which had a weirdly unfurnished downstairs belying a lavish upstairs, then have picnic part 2 in the beautiful gardens and finally a look around the nearby house that had belonged to Hogarth; it was a good complement as they were pretty contemporary, although more interesting as a showcase for his life and works than as a house itself. We headed home and M & I had one of our increasingly rare roast-dinner and Game-of-Thrones evenings.
