I had an evening-in the Thursday after coming back from the West Country then N came over on the Friday. We were up early the following morning to head back down to Hampshire, this time by train, as my family were getting together to mark my Dad's 75th, which had passed a few weeks ago. We got off at Ashurst and all convened at the New Forest Wildlife Park to look at the owls and otters, as well as a variety of other animals, several of which (wolves, boar) had previously been indigenous to the UK and are now being slowly reintroduced. We went back to Mum & Dad's for lunch and to hang out a bit, then out to Lymington for a Thai meal early evening before N& I jumped on the train back up to London. Very unusually for me, I'd had a headache most of the day and hadn't been especially perky and engaged, which I felt pretty bad about given how rarely I interact with my nieces or we all gather together.

On Sunday I actually made it out Egham (on a circuitous train route with J&E) for the monthly game: which could well have been my first roleplaying for about 6 months; we're still on P's What Became of Yesterday's Tomorrows and it was a good session to slot back in for as we were all playing one-shot characters, good to see the gang too.

I went over to N's on Monday night then Tuesday was out for some bands at the Monarch: I got there during the heavyish Dead at Eleven, was mostly there for The Green Brothers but stayed for Underjoy, who were pretty cool but hard to pin down stylistically, and the punky Fiende Fatale who I'd seen before and energised the crowd. The Family Dog were headlining but I've seen them a few times now and headed off.

On Thursday, my not-so-new boss L, who's a member of the MCC, had arranged a post-work outing to watch a 20-20 match at Lords, which about a dozen of us went along to. By happy coincidence, Middlesex were playing Hampshire, who had an easy win. It was a slightly odd experience: possibly because it ended up being fairly one-sided, no-one seemed to be paying a lot of attention to the cricket but everyone seemed to be having a very nice time and we careened around St. John's Wood afterwards trying to find somewhere we could fit into for a drink. We ended up somewhere that seemed more like a posh restaurant and it didn't quite know how to cope with this influx.

I was working at home yesterday: with a week left of August I feel like I've finally started making some progress on the catch-up tasks I had for while the drop-in is closed, then met N for a couple of drinks in the very well-appointed outside area of the Garden Gate pub in Hampstead. I popped home for a bit then went out again later to go to the last ever night at the Borderline, which was closing its doors, with a large crowd from the Meet Up group- it was a really fun night, lots of dancing, and its interesting how comfortable you can be with a bunch of people you barely know when the shared purpose is clearly delineated.
