I had gone over to N's on the Friday night to hang out with a bunch of his friends and housemates with pizza from down the road, then the next day we headed off in the van for a long-threatened tour of various friends who are scattered around the West Country. Before we got that far, we stopped off outside Romsey for a BBQ at R's Dad's with R&P, S&R and their kids. I'd forgotten quite how much of a bon viveur our host was and spent a lovely, indulgent day, then stayed over in the repurposed holiday chalet he has in the gardens before another epic meal Sunday morning.

We drove on to visit L & family in Baltonsborough: she took us for a wander around Wells (home of Hot Fuzz!) then we dipped into Glastonbury for a quick reminder of all its woo-woo before a fairly low-key evening and a night in her annexe. One of the main purposes of the trip was to visit Bristol, as I keep hearing great things about it, and we had planned to stay a couple of nights there with N's ex-housemate D, but he'd had a family emergency and in the end we only dipped in for half a day: we had a wander, then met up with TP for lunch, a mooch around the museum and a pint, before driving on to Bath.

We were staying with D&C and I met their kids for the first time since the eldest was a baby: we spent Tuesday poking around the city (D and I went to the excellently presented Roman remains), which the sunshine was showing off at its genteel best, then drove on to Corsham to spend the night with C&B. We started with some drinks at the unexpectedly but gloriously Ruin Bar-esque Flemish Weaver, then moved on for a curry (our fourth meal out/takeaway in two days). Corsham itself turned out to be a lovely little market town.

Yesterday we drove home through the relentless rain and got back early afternoon: after some necessary domesticity, I headed over to the Shacklewell Arms in the evening and saw first Bug Teeth, a one-woman outfit who performed snatches of ethereal vocals over looped ambient guitar sounds; I was there for Youth Sector, who I'd put on my watch list after an accidental encounter over a year ago and couldn't remember anything about, but it turns out it was a good shout. Headliners Peaness were a harmonic and cheery all-female trio but it started getting so busy people weren't able to get in so I headed off to make space after a couple of songs.
