I had an evening in last Thursday then, N still being in shows, I arranged to go down to Southampton and catch up with a couple of friends I hadn't seen for ages: J and I had randomly selected a gig at a newish venue called Heartbreakers, Single Mothers, a Canadian punk outfit who apparently have a revolving cast of members, they were fine but it was mostly just an excuse to be out and we had a drink at the Shooting Star before walking back to Bitterne. I wandered back into the city and poked around for a few hours in the morning, then met up with L&L, making the most of a child-free weekend, and stuffed ourselves at an all-you-can-eat buffet above the high street.

I got the train back to London in time to head out to Nambucca in the evening: I was there for Green Brothers, who were much tighter than the last time I'd caught them, but stayed around for the rocky Mellor, The Clause, who have apparently just had a single go big but seemed to play different songs in wildly different styles, and Manchester boys Lyerr, who were my favourite of the three. I had a bit of a niddling Sunday, M's Mum & partner were down, which is nice but makes it hard to get anything done quickly: I was mostly trying to follow the cricket across a range of media, although headed out just as the Super Over was starting to get to the Old Blue Last for more bands.

First up were Yung KP, a trio with choppy guitars, then Lucid Hound, another trio, this time with alternating vocalists and a more doomy sound. I was there for The Framatics, the only band on the bill not from Glasgow: they are made up of several members of Concrete Caverns, who I had seen a few times, with the addition of a female singer and I had kept running into the drummer at gigs, who recognised me and was always really friendly, so I figured I should see what they're like and was really impressed; they have a bit of a Yonaka feel to them. It had been a really good weekend for actually talking to people I've been to see: the Green Brothers lads chatted for a bit, Pete from Lighthouse was also at Nambucca and Luke who used to be in Paves is often there and friendly; it's only taken me 5 or so years to get to a level of conversation most people would have reached in 5 minutes . . .

I stayed over at N's Monday night, as he was finally done with shows for the year, and we ate Chinese in the garden with his housemates, then the two of us watched Tell Tale Tusk at a Folk night at the Slaughtered Lamb in Clerkenwell on Tuesday night. It was the usual folk format of a set with two halves and recent motherhood had meant they were down one of their singers but were still as spellbinding as ever.
