Iris Festival etc. 27/03/19-31/03/19
Apr. 11th, 2019 08:52 pmThe day after I came back from Budapest was the (roughly) annual Iris Festival, this year themed around the Natural World; I played my usual role of icing something vaguely thematic onto a zillion cupcakes then serving them up the ravening hordes, although I did actually get a break to look around the festival this year, so saw the Animatronic Dinosaurs, trail of four-foot dragonfly sculptures, caricaturists, mosaic makers etc, as well as the keynote speaker, Will Gompertz, bimbling around. I did my own bimbling around the streets of East Oxford before getting the coach home.
I was back at work on the Thursday, which seemed like it had been pretty full-on in my absence, and back at a gig in the evening: getting to Electrowerkz in time to just see Otherkin, who seemed to have had a bit of a reinvention but still got the crowd dancing with their old stuff. I was ready for a drink after work on Friday, despite my two-day week, and met up with M, N plus Cousin A (who was celebrating finally buying a flat after many travails) and friend in a Fitzrovia pub for a few very convivial hours before heading back to N's and crashing early.
I headed back to mine and had a domestic day most of Saturday, although avoiding the lounge where M's Mum was lying ill on our sofa, then headed down to Greenwich for my former colleague S's housewarming; his ex was there, which was good as it meant I knew someone other than the hosts, but actually everyone was really lovely and easy to talk to, although the changing clocks meant I got back a lot later than I felt like I deserved to. M&I headed out to Uxbridge for a walk with Culture Club Claire on the Sunday, it took a while for us to get away from civilisation but once we actually got onto the Hillingdon Trail, and then the Grand Union Canal, it was really nice and we ran into PFW on the way back to the station.
