I had an evening in Monday night, then was out Tuesday to see the rearranged Pretty Vicious gig at the Camden Assembly. Support came from Al Moses, South Wales youngsters with a hint or rock'n'roll about them, and Pretty Vicious did not disappoint, although it was really all about the final burst of songs. My New Year's Resolution had been to have more people over to dinner and it had taken me a little while to getting round to doing anything about it but I kicked off on Wednesday by lumping all my vegan friends together (to be fair, they'd got on well at parties and I wanted to encourage the association) and having T&A and J&E over; I cooked curry, obviously, and it was a really nice evening.

Thursday I went down to the Sebright Arms, who were celebrating two years in their current incarnation with a free gig, and met up with my Northern doppelganger Joey. I got there during Italia 90, whose lyrical anti-capitalism stood out more than the last time I saw them; Haze didn't make a major impression and we were there for Phobophobes, who are gradually seeding in some new songs. Lice were on last, playing a raucous punk that really wasn't my thing. I was back in Camden on Friday evening, after a couple of post-work drinks with colleagues, and got to the Electric Ballroom just in time for Yungblud to come on: the place was packed out with teenage girls, which did make me somewhat self-conscious in the middle of the crowd but his infectious energy largely overcame that.

Saturday was pretty all over the place: domestic jobs locally in the morning, a child-heavy party in Leyton in the afternoon, saying goodbye to E from Book Group who's moving out of London, then an event to celebrate 10 Years of the Bent Bars Project at the amazingly decked-out Studio Voltaire in Clapham in the evening; lots of people came and there were readings from outside and inside pen pals [they asked me to do a couple as one of the two people that showed up to their first ever meeting] and a few performances, most notably by Bird La Bird, keeping alive the stories of queer prisoners transported in the 19th Century; it was a really heartening event. Today N and I tromped around part of Epping Forest, a circular walk from Theydon Bois, which was mostly pretty nice despite the changeable weather.
