I was spending Christmas itself at my Uncle & Aunt's with N, my parents and Cousin A which was all very relaxed and pleasant. We got there for lunch on Christmas Eve then went for a walk around the village which was much needed, the rest of the time was just a lot of eating and hanging out; some friends of the hosts joined us for Christmas Day and it was a little bit relentlessly sedentary, I could have done with some kind of game or walk to break things up, but was otherwise very nice. N and I then headed off on Boxing Day and did go for a long wander around the backstreets between Regent's Park and Kings X until we finally hit the canal once we had returned the van to his work, then ate all the cheese with his housemates in the evening and snuck in some games (Exploding Kittens and Balderdash).
I was working the Thursday and Friday, although had a couple of pretty stress-free days, and did my traditional post-Christmas roast turkey on Thursday night, because I love having all the leftovers to cook with. Lovely Joe came over Friday evening, we hung out and he tried to show me some Joan Crawford movie. We went down to Denmark Hill to have lunch with his friends H and S the next day, then I met N near the V&A and we looked around their cool little Censored! exhibition before heading back to his to eat curry and play Cards Against Humanity with his housemates. We headed out pretty late to Borough Market on Sunday and also checkout out another cool little temporary exhibition at the Tate Modern (Magic Realism: Art in Weimar Germany) before going our separate ways.
Yesterday afternoon we met back up at Waterloo and got the train down to Brockenhurst where we were spending NYE with a bunch of other Usual Suspects and their children at J&E's house: we had the usual sprawling meal (N&I made tonnes of bruschetta for the starter) and ridiculous Murder Mystery which barely concluded in time for 2019 to kick in. We all emerged gradually this morning and walked along the river from Beaulieu to Buckler's Hard for a posh lunch at the restaurant at the Master Builder's there; we reluctantly all took our leaves from one another and N & I caught the train back up to London to face returning to post-festive season reality.
