Last week was the first week of this year's nightshelters and pretty full on. Because of the person pulling out, I'm caseworking one of the shelters as well as trying to support two of the new caseworkers that did start last week: I also seemed to end up overseeing the registration process on Monday, which was pretty stressful, and stayed for the shelter in the evening. N came over Tuesday evening and then the gigs kicked in again: on Wednesday it was The Blinders, the first of three gigs in a row where the support were also a band I would have gone to see in their own right, in this case Calva Louise; I also seem to be nurturing another gig-buddy, a guy called Joey I've met a few times now, seeing his fellow Doncastrians for the first time.

Thursday was possibly one of the most horrendous work days I've had with two major incidents happening simultaneously in the drop-in (a flood and an assault) and already a clutch of very high needs people in our shelters. I headed up to Dalston for a drink with N and his colleague afterwards before moving on to the Shacklewell Arms: Family Jools were on first, who I didn't take much away from, then Show Boy, playing what seemed to be quite a bit of new material (and not the song about Channing Tatum, sadly). Headliners were 485c and it was great to see a good crowd for them.

Friday evening I was back with Joey at the Camden Assembly where one-girl-and-guitar Blabb and heavy duo Suspects were on first, then October Drift, who we're both big fans of, before Asylums headlined, celebrating 5 years as band. The music didn't stop there as this weekend Philanthropunks, the mini punk festival raising money for where I work, was happening again, conveniently at the Fiddler's Elbow. I popped along for a few hours in the afternoon and saw The Long Knives, one-dude-and-guitar What Did You Expect and Snap Out.

Saturday evening was N's annual Halloween Party (delayed because of housemates out of the country), the theme this year was Retro and I put in the minimal possible effort by going as the 90s. We were hemmed indoors a bit more than usual by the rain but it was generally pretty fun other than some slightly unpleasant drunken drama at the end. I bowed to the inevitable and (post-brunch) went into work for about 5 hours on Sunday, to make my life less stressful, but popped to the Dublin Castle to see a couple of early-evening bands, The Youts and Feral Youth, playing together again, before heading home.
