Despite having seen them in Winchester the night before, it was lovely to have R&H around for lunch with M & I on Sunday a couple of weeks ago, especially since they aren't going to be North-London neighbours for much longer. I spent the Monday evening over at N's then on Tuesday met up with Lisa and Cousin A to check out the British Library's Anglo-Saxon exhibition: it had some great pieces, well presented and wasn't too busy but their 'late opening' still closes pretty early and we found ourselves chased out of there, having already spent about 90 minutes looking at everything, with two whole rooms still unexplored.

Wednesday was Halloween and I found myself heading over, in some vague attempt at Fancy Dress, to a new Hackney Wick warehouse venue, Studio 9294, for a gig. First up were Los Bitchos, an all female quintet who won points for having dressed as the Spice Girls for Halloween but their instrumental funk didn't really excite me; I was there for Arrows of Love, the first time they'd played together for 6 months, and then The Wytches were headlining, about the third time I've accidentally seen them and they defintiely got the crowd going.

I met N and some of his colleagues for an after work drink on Thursday but my gig schedule was really kicking in for November: on Friday I headed out to the Water Rats, missed the start of cheek-boned youngsters The Estevans, who seemed to share singing duties between two of them, then saw the reliable pizzazz of Red Rum Club; on Saturday, after checking out a little exhibition on 50s British sculpture (which segued neatly into their Henry Moore rooms) with N at Tate Britain (not Tate Modern, as I initially went to), I headed out in the evening to Roadtrip and the Workshop where I saw Brighton two-piece Sons, who were beset by technical difficulties but finally made it through two songs, Manuka Hive, who included one of the guys from Paves that I see around the scene the whole time and whose studied incoherence was complemented by a massive bag of ice being spilled over the floor in the middle of their set, then Garage Flowers, their first gig I'd made it to for a while, although they also had some technical troubles.

Then on Sunday I headed out during the day with most of Culture Club to do a walk from Leatherhead to Dorking, along the Mole Valley, which was really nice and included a random stop in a vineyard towards the end, and in the evening went to the Notting Hill Arts Club for more bands. Margot were melodic and earnest (i.e.: not my thing), although Shiners had some more spunk to them. I was there for Free Money, although their set didn't quite seem to take off this time.
