The week just gone has not been one of my best: I got in on Monday to an e-mail from one of the caseworkers that was due to start next week pulling out, which given that the promise of these new starters has been one of the main things keeping me going, was less than ideal, then several colleagues were off sick during the week and I ended up covering nearly all the drop-ins, when I'm supposed to be trying to extricate myself from that completely.

At the same time several of my social plans for the week fell through: roleplaying was called off Monday, Tuesday's gig was postponed as the singer had lost his voice and I had missed that the gig I had in the diary for Thursday (Blackwaters, who I was really looking forward to) had been moved to the day before; the slightly depressing silver lining to all of which was that I could work late without it screwing up other plans. I did go out Wednesday night, however: we went to a Book-themed quiz in a bar in Leytonstone with a couple of N's friends, which was fun even if we didn't cover ourselves in glory, and N came over Friday night.

Then I was back working on Saturday in preparation for the shelters: speaking on the Robert Elms Show on Radio London in the morning, then taking part in the induction for overnight staff in the afternoon- two talky things (not my favourite!) in one day, but I managed to remain coherent at least. Then in the evening I headed down to Winchester with N for S's 40th Birthday, a thronged, 60s/70s themed party at their house. There was a nice bunch of Our Lot there and it was a shame to tear ourselves away for the last train back to London.
