The second of my three weekends in a row in a tent was, slightly surprisingly, a work outing: one of my young and enthusiastic colleagues had arranged for us to go up to some semi-wild camping in the Lea Valley just for the Friday night, although predictably more and more people made their excuses as the day neared and it ended up being just three guys chatting around a camp fire on the edge of a marshy tributary, but that was very nice in itself. Three of our female colleagues joined us in the morning (although L, who had organised it all, started feeling bad and had to go home) and we did some leisurely kayaking up and down the Lea in the sun, before some rather less successful hiking around the area in search of a pub lunch. The place we were aiming for was having A Very Bad Day and when we trekked back to another place it was just closing its kitchen.

We gave up and I headed down to Hackney Wick to join N for his friend A's birthday at one of the bars along the canal there: we sat inside during the heat of the sun then all spilled out onto the grass as it cooled towards evening, which was all pretty lovely. I headed home as I was getting up to get a train down to Shoreham Sunday morning with M and the Culture Club crew to walk from there up along the South Downs Way to Devil's Dyke and then along to get the train back from Hassocks. It was another hot day and pretty epic but I managed to be well-prepared for once and it was a really good walk.

On Monday I headed up to Rickmansworth so I could give J his ticket for Boomtown at the weekend as we were travelling down separately, we careened round a few different drinking establishments while I was there, running into all the local characters he knows, which was entertaining. Then Tuesday I went to Walthamstow to see Ant Man & the Wasp with N & his housemate, which was fun. Wednesday I headed out mid-evening to Camden to see Pete Kosanovich playing at The Monarch: it was Pete that pretty much kick-started my obsession with going round pub venues seeing small, young bands, after I met him supporting Jim Bob one time; his blues-rock isn't my normal thing but it was lovely to see him again after quite a break. We hung out for a bit afterwards too and saw The Model Society who were playing next: indie blokes who were actually pretty slick.
