After a couple more evenings in, Wednesday last week I went over to N's for the unprecedented occurrence of all his housemates being around at the same time, which they celebrated by reorganising the contents of the freezer, although hanging out there is always fun; sadly D is moving on to Bristol so there is more change to come. On Thursday I went down to Rough Trade East where Shame were playing a free album-launch set: it wasn't quite the same as a full on gig but still fun, I also queued up to have something signed for the first time in my life, which I had fairly mixed feelings about . . .
I spent Friday night in then spent a really nice day with M on Saturday: we had breakfast and lunch together, either side of a walk to the Heath, and did some crosswording; it's become a rarity to do anything just the two of us so it felt good to reconnect. In the evening we joined a couple of others to see Titus Andronicus at the Barbican, which sweetened the play's overblown gore with plenty of humour. Afterwards I headed on to Stamford Hill for my former FNB comrade M's 30th Birthday: I'd been a bit anxious about not really knowing anyone, but a couple of people remembered me from previous parties and were really friendly.
We'd ended up arranging to have Sunday lunch out in Kentish Town with R which was good, as I'm always conscious of not seeing my more local friends any more regularly than I do ones that live hundreds of miles away, although like everyone it looks likely he'll move further out soon.
After work on Monday I ventured out to Stratford to help my friend J's PhD research as she interviewed me about my experience of anti-gay stigma, which I loved as frankly there's nothing as pleasing as being given free rein to talk about yourself. I was at the Camden Assembly on Tuesday for a gig: first up were 485c, who I've seen a couple of times recently and am still digging, then came Liverpudlians Colour who had some good audible-lyrics going on, then Sick Joy were headlining: who I'd added to my 'follow' list after seeing them in support one time but largely forgotten what they were like: turns out they are great, with a fairly 90s rock thing going on.
I was back over at N's on Wednesday and headed down to Lewisham on Thursday, although we ended up playing a half-game of New Angeles rather than roleplaying, which was good, politicky fun. Last night I headed down to John Kennedy's night at the Tooting Tram & Social (all my gigs have been free so far this month, which is making January a lot more bearable) where a couple of bands I'm following were playing: first up Itchy Teeth, who played a kinda smooth psychedelic funk: they were a little bit smug and ironic for me but did have a couple of really fun songs. False Heads had stepped in at the last minute but didn't blow me away quite as much this time, although Paves were really good again.
