Nine days into the New Year and I've had an unprecedented numbers of evening in (albeit tonight's is somewhat enforced by plans getting cancelled) and only been to one gig in the last 18 days: don't worry, I don't expect this situation to last . . .

One New Year's Eve itself I went for a solo tramp around Hampstead Heath, which felt good both as a reaction to the festive indulgence and because I hadn't been there for ages (a 90 minutes walk probably wasn't the ideal first outing for my new boots, though). I headed over to N's in the evening where our half-formed plans with three of his housemates devolved into staying in, playing games (Splendour mostly, with a bit of Scrabble and Heads Up) and drinking. I was feeling a bit groggy on New Year's Day but we ventured out for brunch and then to The Wallace Collection to check out their mini Spanish Art feature, mostly as a pretext to then poke around the main collection and armoury.

M and I have started watching The Handmaid's Tale together, which filled some of my evenings in and N came over Wednesday for food and social crosswording. On Thursday I did venture out to the Shacklewell Arms to see Show Boy again, supported by a woozy, witty duo called Femuline and the more frenetic CC Honeymoon who sang over an electro-ish backing track, less my thing but no lack of commitment.

I was home Friday night and Saturday was N's birthday so I met him just after lunch and we poked around the John Soane Museum, as it had been a while and they had a new little exhibition on the sarcophagus they have there, then M joined us at the Soho Secret Tea Room before we travelled up to Hackney Wick where he'd arranged to have drinks with people at Crate Brewery, which was a lot of fun: good turn out, nice venue, even a little bit of dancing! Sunday involved another brunch and then a walk along the canal from Haggerston to Limehouse before going our separate ways.
