the rest of Buckland House was just as gloriously relaxing, although the late-night intoxication seemed to increase as the week went on, which was a great deal of fun, particularly the suddenly improvised guess-the-film-star's-age drinking game, although our question master may not agree . . . I did venture out in a little band on the Wednesday for a trip that included the disappointingly scaffolding-clad Buckfast Abbey, a butterfly/otter experience, a steam train down to Totnes and a petting zoo with a range of owls and baby pygmy goats which were all kinds of cute, but otherwise stuck to chilling out around the house, while playing the occasional game, which was exactly what I needed. I headed back to London on the Friday and caught up with N in the evening before going back out to Farnborough on the Saturday where I had a couple of drinks with D before hitting the evening reception for the wedding of Layla (one of my Centreparcs/Murder Mystery Dinner compadres) which featured a not uncharacteristically eccentric first dance and was pretty good fun, although K (pregnant again) crashed pretty early and I felt wierdly inhibited about talking to a lot of their friends I'd met once or twice before, even though i's keen to. After some time-killing in Farnborough (I discovered a serene leafy walk right by the motorway) I caught my train(s) down to Glastonbury to stay with my friend L and her family: some of our other school friends had been down for the weekend and I managed to catch the tail-end of them. I had another really relaxed couple of days, it was such a novelty to do family things that I had a really nice time- we made candles, went blackberry picking, set up a meal worm colony, walked up the Tor, played with the kids, even degrouting the driveway had a charm to it (for a short while.) I headed back again to London on Tuesday and caught up with N in the evening; finally back to work on Wednesday- having portioned my leave out to endless long weekends for the last two years, having 12 days away from work in a row had been something of an undreamt-of luxury, and went for some drinks along the South Bank with [livejournal.com profile] jamese, before he heads off to the US, in the evening. I'm easing myself back in gently though, off again tomorrow for another wedding!

The first week was increasingly awesome, and although I very obviously shouldn't have driven to Exeter on Friday morning I'm oddly glad that I did - experiences like that are character-building, right?
