been a good couple of days: I went to see some bands at the Betsy Trotwood Wed night (a fundraiser to make back some of our costs from Queerbash)- saw Gender Fascist (a duo from Wales, as their songs Boy from Bridgend and Aberystwyth Dykes may suggest,) Winston Echo (one ex-choirboy and his guitar,) plus Chaps and The Corey Orbisons, who were both of the shouty-noise persuasion.
then last night I successfully enrolled for the Spanish Course (hurrah!) before heading up to the Q&A community cafe at one of the Dalston squats, which proceeded in typically chaotic DIY style: turns out the food & discussion element is only every two weeks so I wandered around Dalston with R for a bit before the films, only they couldn't get the subtitles to work on XXY. We did get to watch one called Fear Eats the Soul (or whatever that is in German) which was worthy if a bit bloodless. I find the haphazard organisational ambiance quite endearing, but it does make me a bit wary of inviting people along to DIY events in case they're expecting something a little more polished . . .
headed along to Nails afterwards where Kevin Blechdom & Blevin Blectom were playing (I think I preferred the thumping piano numbers to the niddling electronica) and was happily much better attended than last week. There was quite a lot of crossover in attendees of the gigs, cafe and club and I'm beginning to feel better about having people to go to a lot of the queerscene stuff with, and seeing people I at least know well enough to say hi to when I'm there.
