and his sons play drums all day
Sep. 16th, 2007 11:17 pmam finally settled somewhere, albeit on Maggie's sofa for the next couple of weeks, and got back into London for the first of what promises to be a year of non-stop 30th birthday parties; the last seven days have been awesome if only for having seen a sizeable chunk of all my friends in this country, from all periods of my life, in such a concentrated burst (including a couple I'd not seen for may years)- there were Oxonians, Eghamites and Cammies at
ebq and
elethiomel's wedding in Cumbria, then I squaggled down through the country (Sheffield, Manchester, Harrogate, Nottingham, Birmingham, Oxford, London) catching up with school friends, LMHers, cousins and people I've just kinda got to know along the way.
the wedding was great fun: amazing location, great atmosphere and the day somehow seemed (to me) to really capture the couple perfectly. Was also really nice seeing so much English countryside from the train (particularly during my not entirely efficient route criss-crossing Yorkshire)- rambling around nature was one of the things I enjoyed the most when I's away and, given that we have plenty of extremely pleasant nature of our own, I'm resolved to make more of an effort to do more here.
had most of a day to wander around Oxford by myself before descending on people which was nice as I got to poke things and see how it all was (full of very young looking people seemed to be the main feature)- marvelled at stuff in the Pitt Rivers Museum and caught a film at the Phoenix [Atonement: I was mostly dissatisfied, without wanting to give too much away there didn't seem to be enough of a balance between the two parts, with the latter not substantial enough; although I wasn't as offended by Keira as the reviewer who referred to her as Ikea Knightley throughout his whole piece] but Jericho seems impoverished by the loss of both Jericho Books and Peppers.
property ownership, babies and the passage of time have been predictably dominant themes, and ones I'm going to try to steer away from as much as I can, but I'm pretty chilled about this extended valedictory to my blink-and-you-missed-them 20s- I'm still not feeling anything but young and, whilst it may be a different kind of young to other experiences of youth I've had, some of which are now a number of years in the past, there's no doubt that it's definitely young
