so my weekend was mainly characterised by wierd sleeping patterns: both friday and saturday I ended up crashing at about 3.30 (for quiz & party respectively) then not sleeping in that much the next day and sleeping for a few hours in the afternoon/evening instead. The result of this was that when sunday night came & I tried to go to bed I wasn't tired at all, so I lay for ages feeling way too hot in a wierd humid summer night kinda way and not being able to sleep. Only when I did finally start to drop off I was suddenly really hyper-aware of the process and it felt not like I's going to sleep like I do any other night, but that I's drifting into unconsciousness (since, naturally, I have innumerable experiences of drifting into unconsciousness for me to compare it with) and somewhere in my semi-conscious mind I became obsessed with the idea that gas was leaking out into our flat and that if I allowed myself to succumb to it I'd never wake up. So I started to fight the sleepiness but it kept on overpowering me and I'd sink into snippets of REM before dragging myself out again until eventually I's strong enough to get up and go and check whetehr the gas was on. Which it wasn't. And now my body has hopefully returned to some kind of workable sleep pattern.

But yes, the weekend's activities were all much fun: was there at the dawn and death of Hugh's birthday at quiz & party respectively (& twas [livejournal.com profile] inskauldrak's birthday too), admired masks, won absinthe, drank absinthe, was way more hungover from friday's few glasses of wine than saturday's assortment of alcoholic amalgems, hung out in Richmond and saw the Matrix film between the two which worked pretty well for me, was glad that disparate groups of people seemed to mix well (although the Japanese girls who came into the quiz on a question which involved a fibinacci sequence being transmited in binary via beeps and boops wasn't such a great success), marvelled at small-world syndromes ([livejournal.com profile] ebq having invited Leanne who I hadn't seen since I left Oxford to the party and the quiz being won by an ex-LMHer whom Ralph had become friends with entirely independently) and was disturbed by attempts to introduce people to one another by lj-user ids, decided my friends are all fantastic but was generally oblivious to what was actually going on with them.
